History
First appeared in Divine Husbandman's Classic of the Materia Medica with no categorisation between Bai zhu and Cang zhu.
Traditional Usage
Cangzhu is an acrid, warm, aromatic herb that strongly dries dampness and strengthens the spleen. It enters the stomach and spleen meridians and can induce perspiration, dispel wind-dampness and benefit the eyes in cases of night blindness, cataracts and glaucoma.
Modern Research
Cangzhu has been found to have hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, antibiotic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and genitourinary benefits in pharmacological studies.
