Traditional Usage

Ginger has been used for over 5,000 years in traditional medicine. In Western herbalism, it is primarily valued as a carminative for digestive complaints and as an anti-inflammatory for arthritis and musculoskeletal pain. Traditionally used for nausea, motion sickness, and cold extremities.

Modern Research

Extensively researched for its antiemetic effects. Meta-analyses support its efficacy for pregnancy-induced nausea and chemotherapy-induced nausea. Anti-inflammatory effects attributed to gingerols and shogaols, which inhibit COX and LOX enzymes. Studies show potential benefits for osteoarthritis pain reduction comparable to ibuprofen in some trials.
