Traditional Usage

Yiyiren is a grain, also known as Job's Tears, that is native to Southeast Asia. Used both as a food and medicine, it has sweet, cooling properties and affects the lung, spleen and stomach meridians. It is mainly used to strengthen the spleen, drain dampness and clear heat. It also effectively treats muscle, joint and tendon pain caused by dampness and is useful for all conditions caused by water accumulation.

Modern Research

The extract of the herb prepared with ethanol contains coixenolide, a substance with significant antiplastic, anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory and sedative activities. Other active chemical constituents have a hypoglycemic effect.
