Traditional Usage
Quanshen is bitter, tart and slightly cold in nature. It is used to clear heat and helps to dispel toxins from the body. Externally, it can be used to treat ulcers in the mouth.
Modern Research
Quanshen has shown anticancer properties in laboratory tests. Studies in vitro have shown that the alcohol extract of this herb has an inhibiting activity against the Hela cell line, and the water extract of the herb was effective on tumours in mice with a inbiting rate of 75%.
